Galaxie generator said “Nah, bro” on Friday. New gen ($36) has been ordered, since our local alternator guy called his supplier for a new armature and was told to pepper his angus. His *cost* on rebuild parts was well over $100.
May be good for another 55 years/100,000 miles.

Probably not, unfortunately. It seems like the cheap reman parts you can buy fail a lot faster than the originals .

I was being facetious, but it *is* an AC Delco reman and not an unknown, and I’m going to buy a spare at that cost. The odds of having two both
lose their armature
s and not, say, brushes seem low. If just the
brushes go, my guy could rebuild cheap, but between bearings and brushes and armature and so on, it was pretty much knackered.

Is this slave labor?

I think this is how generators actually work. About 50kVA
per Pikachu.

But why are they on a treadmill?

Guardians of the Galaxie Vol. 3 is more interesting than I expected.

I wasn’t sure. Sorry, sarcasm doesn’t translate well through the internet.

The electricity is produced by muscle action in their body, it’s why they jump and/or flex weirdly to release lightning. It just makes sense to do secondary capture for higher efficiency.
Honestly, it’s like you know nothing about industrial Pikachu processes.

Why not upgrade to newer alternator ?

Well, they do look happy.

No real need to. I spent a great deal of thought on it, but as it is, I’d want to convert to a period correct style setup, and at the end of the day, buying the new regulator, new pigtail, and bracket pieces would be an outlay that doesn’t offer that much of an improvement.
As it is, I have a new generator style regulator and a spare, and there are so few electrics on the car I will never really tax the 30amp service from a generator. No radio, no power windows, minimal interior light, just regular lights, heater, wipers, and engine. Even if I uprate the inner headlights, there’s still no clear reason, given that the generator proved last year to be capable of keeping the battery up in bitter cold with lights/heater/wipers on...

It makes sense. If you upgrade to an HEI and all new lights than it is a possibility.

It does have an electronic points kit put on by a previous owner, which is about all I’d have wanted to do anyway. Not really planning to replace all four beams, either, just the inners on the high beam circuit so I can have LAZORS if I need them.
In the sense of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", there's a lot sufficiently fixed or insufficiently "broke" to dissuade me from any "overdoing it" fixes like hei or alternator.
